How do we Fuel Fearless Ideas?

The Administrative Modernization Program (AMP) advances how the University of Maryland sees and organizes money so we can allocate resources intelligently, make investments in the future and keep education affordable. Working closely with experts from across campus, AMP is building a financial foundation that’s more transparent, more efficient and that will arm our community with the funds they need to make fearless ideas a reality.

Every day at the University of Maryland, someone is hatching the next great idea. In fact, there are an infinite number of great ideas percolating across campus, right now: researchers in cyber security are developing the next generation of tools to safeguard user privacy; our arts and humanities students are using the stage to push social discourse; innovative ways to challenge the opioid epidemic are being conceived in the School of Public Health.

Yet across the nation, higher education is navigating a delicate balancing act: universities must manage the needs of today’s student and the desire to push bold ideas forward while keeping the cost of education down.

In today’s landscape, how do we fuel fearless ideas?

This is the question driving the mission of the Administrative Modernization Program (AMP). Executed by the Offices of the President and the Provost, AMP is re-inventing how the university sees and organizes its money so we can allocate resources intelligently, make investments in the future and keep education affordable. Working closely with experts from across campus, including over 150 faculty and staff, AMP is re-thinking the day-to-day business of running a university—how we book travel, buy goods and services, support students and alumni, even forecast enrollment—to build a financial foundation that’s more transparent and more efficient. The result of this collaborative effort is more time and energy to create, teach, and scheme the bold and innovative ideas synonymous with UMD.

AMP is currently running 13 projects to better service the UMD community, from an innovative budget model and travel management enhancements to procurement modernization and student advising. Learn more about these projects, and how you can contribute by exploring this site, or by contacting us.
